ESL Classes for Hispanics of Gainesville, Texas |

An English class for Hispanics is
offered by Hillcrest Church of Christ. Hispanics are taught to
read and speak English using examples of sentences in both languages.
The participants get to hear the sentences read by a Hispanic person
as well as by Texans. The common text for reading is taken from first
chapter of John. At the end of the course, the participants are
rewarded with a certificate and a New Testament with both English and Spanish.
English as a Second Language is a course offered through Hillcrest Church of Christ. The Bible is the text from which students are taught to read English. First a section of text, for example an exert taken from the first chapter of John is read in the student’s native language. Then the students hear the same section of text read in English, albeit with a Texan accent. Other media resources are utilized to help students not only learn to read but also converse in English. Most of our students have been Hispanics from the community. At the end of the course, the participants are rewarded with a certificate and a New Testament Bible with both English and Spanish. |
